Carly Smithson “Come Together” (fixed)
March 23, 2008
so apparently the first studio recorded version of Carly Smithson’s “Come Together” had everyone saying she sounded like a chipmunk. This was brought to iTunes attention and I am assuming they lowered the key to her song and and did some tweaks. Now it sounds much more like her.

Lost 408 “Meet Kevin Johnson”
March 21, 2008
Tonight’s Lost was a Michael-centric episode, the first since Michael and Walt floated away on that boat at the end of season two. Sayid (showing a great deal of restraint) corners Michael and demands to know how Michael came to be on the boat. What we see turns out to be a flashback (kind of), it takes place after the crash of 815 but not in the Oceanic Six time period that we’ve expected out of flashforwards. It took a little while for me to figure that out since Lost has gotten so tricky with their flash-whatevers and they definitely tricked the hell out of me last week.
Michael’s flashthing started with Michael speeding headfirst into a wall after pinning a note to his chest (we later learn this was a suicide note for Walt). Michael wakes up in a hospital room and in walks Libby (my mom was in the bathroom during this scene and I definitely screamed “LIBBY IS BACK!” as soon as I heard her voice) but of course it was just a guilt-fueled dream. Nonetheless I thought it was pretty clever that they had dream!Libby bringing him blankets since when Michael shot her she was getting blankets for a picnic with Hurley (RIP Libby D:). The only thing we learn from Michael’s time in the hospital is that after going mono e mono with a wall of steel and losing he somehow looks pretty good (reminiscent of them all crashing on 815 and only gets some minor injuries perhaps?).
I’m not going to lie the next scene with Michael visiting his mother I missed some of the dialog, my hamster is apparently blind now so we were dealing with that at the time. From what I could tell Michael’s mama is pissed because she had to pretend that her presumed-dead son and grandson are now hiding out and she can’t tell anyone. She is taking care of Walt but I missed whether or not Walt didn’t want to see Michael or Michael wouldn’t see him. We do see Walt looking out the window down at his father as Michael leaves however (he doesn’t look so gigantic to me Locke). Michael leaves his mother’s house to go pawn off the watch Jin gave to him (back early in season one) for a gun. Michael is sitting in an alley with the gun about to kill himself when he is interrupted by one of the Others (Tom I want to say?). Tom is the Other who kidnapped Walt originally and now he’s here to tell Michael that he still has some work to back on the island and that the Island (yes it deserves to be capitalized) is the one preventing him from killing himself properly. My first reaction was glee because I love that the Island has started to become this huge mystical entity. Already it can cure cancer, paralysis, and infertility and now it’s preventing suicide (and arguably caused the survival of the Oceanic 815 passengers). I am very interested and very excited about where this will go.
Back on the island we see Ben is now chilling with the rest of the Locke tribe but no one is very happy about it. Miles has gotten the grenade out of his mouth and Locke is trying to be “honest” with everyone and to give him credit he does tell them a good chunk of the story. Sawyer confronts Locke later to remind him that he left out the 3.2 million part and Locke states (whether he believes it or not) that since there are banks on the island he doesn’t think it was important to mention because there’s no way Ben is going to get the money. Silly Losties, Miles knows what the rest of us audience members do, Ben can do whatever the hell he wants. Ben wants a rainbow colored unicorn it’ll be on his doorstep the next morning. And this episode Ben wants Alex to skedaddle to some temple where all the other Others have apparently been hiding out. Karl is hesitant as is Alex but Ben swears that if she stays she will be hurt and the other Losties don’t belong in this temple. Rousseau agrees that if Alex is in danger they should leave, which they do.
Tom (who might be gay) is visited by Michael (after Michael fails to kill himself. He points a fully loaded gun to his head, pulls the trigger, and nothing happens. No really, I kid you not) and that’s when we figure out more about Widmore and how Michael got on that boat. Widmore with his infinite resources dug up over 300 graves in Thailand, bought a full plane, and lowered them to the bottom of the Pacific to stage the Oceanic crash. It’s insane to think that anyone could have that kind of money and power but that’s what makes Widmore so interesting, he is arguably more dangerous then Ben and I find that exciting. I can’t wait until we learn more about him (and how Desmond ties into all of it). Tom tells Michael that he needs to go to Fiji and go on the boat back to the island where he will kill everyone on the boat in order to prevent the crew from killing everyone back on the island. This is how he will redeem himself for murdering Ana Lucia and Libby and betraying everyone else back on the island (and Walt knows about all that now which is most of the reason why Michael is trying to kill himself I’m sure).
So off Michael goes to Fiji where we see Miles, Naomi, and a few other newbies. There is a crate waiting for Michael, well Kevin, when he gets there. Tom gives him a call and gives him a warped kind of pep talk and tells him not to open the crate until they’re out at sea. So something suspicious happens between Frank and Naomi and the other crew members don’t do much in terms of convincing Michael NOT to kill them all until one day Michael goes and opens up the crate and removes a black suitcase. He brings it to an empty room and opens it up to reveal a bomb. After a few minutes of hesitation and declaring his love for WAAAAAALT I mean..Walt, he hits “execute” and surprise surprise, when the timer reaches zero a little white flag shows up with the words ‘NOT YET’ written on it. God I really love those Others.
Some time later “Kevin” is told that he has a phone call from someone named Walt, he goes to the radio room only to hear the wonderful voice of Benjamin Linus. Ben is badass as usual and really digs in the knife by reminding Michael that no one told him to kill Ana and Libby, he did that on his own and that be doing this he’s “one of the good guys”. Michael’s instructions are to destroy the radio room (which Sayid repairs in “The Constant”) and then the engines and to await further instructions. This is where the flashwhatever ends and Sayid FOR WHATEVER REASON drags Michael to the captain’s room and exposes him. Okay so yeah Michael shot Ana and Libby which is a very very bad thing and yes he betrayed Jack, Kate, Sawyer, and Hurley and sold them out to the Others but he did it for his son and everyone is okay now (except Ana and Libby obviously…) so I’m not sure why Sayid had to freak out like that. He would have done the same thing for Nadia or Shannon I’m sure. Anyway the captain didn’t appear to be phased by this revelation too much and I was really expecting him to say “I know” but the scene cut off before we could find out what happened.
We get another scene back on the island with Rousseau, Karl, and Alex traveling to the temple. Rousseau tells Alex to drop and rest and drink some water (awww) and Alex and Karl share a nice little moment. Karl doesn’t trust Ben (smart kid) but Alex reassures him that Ben wants to keep her safe (Karl: “Something we have in common” awwww!). So of course two seconds after their nice little moment Karl dies (I’ll have to rewatch it but it sounded and looked like Anton Chigurh had been there…). Alex is devastated and Rousseau pulls her aside, they too share a loving moment before Rousseau bites the dust as well (something Jaydee and I called as soon as the scene started but it’s still sad because she was the only female character on the island that I really liked except for Sun!). Poor Alex is looking around terrified as the people come closer before standing up and screaming that she’s Ben’s daughter. And that’s how it ends…
This episode didn’t give much in terms of mysteries but certainly answered a lot of questions. We know that Walt and Michael did return to New York, we know that Locke was hallucinating something crazy when he saw giant!Walt (unless Walt can teleport or project himself onto the island which people have been saying), we know how and why Michael got on that boat, and we know how the fake Oceanic plane came about. What we still really need to know is why Widmore is so desperate to get to that island (the guy is a gazillionaire, unless he needs to be healed I don’t know why he needs the Island so badly), how Ben is going to come up with over $3 mil while still on the island, and of course whether or not Ben planned Karl and Rousseau’s murder.
And now we have to wait until April for new episodes and it’s going to be on at 10pm now which I HATE. It won’t interfere with my work schedule ever but I’m much less alert an hour later then I am from 9-10.
I’m going to make these posts (hopefully) a tradition, please comment, leave feedback, and tell me what you though of Kevin Johnson.

LOST 407-”Ji Yeon”
March 14, 2008
Well I think the whole Michael thing was extremely anti-climactic because I basically called that forever ago. But obviously the next episode is going to be a lot of Sayid questioning Michael about what happened and according to the preview somehow Sawyer and everybody finds out what’s going on so maybe the radio phone thing starts working. I’d like to think that Walt is somewhere safe and not on the boat and has already been rescued and is waiting for his dad because for Michael to kill two people and betray all of his friends only to end up on a stupid freighter would be really shitty for him. So maybe Ben pulled on final trick and made Michael do him one last favor, Walt can be free but Michael has to be a temporary spy on the boat to be free WITH Walt. I really hate knowing that someone will die in advance.
I would enjoy surprises so much more on Lost if I didn’t know they were coming. We found out how Locke got in the wheelchair which hey, that’s great. Only we knew it was coming a week ahead of time! And now we know someone is going to die next week which I hate. I don’t want it to be Desmond because he’s definitely my favorite character now, but it could very well be Juliet or Claire. I’m hoping it’s just a cop out and Miles or Charlotte is going to bite the dust.
With this episode it seems to be a general consensus that it was a combination of a flashback and a flash forward. Sun was obviously in an Oceanic Six era and giving bird to her baby and Jin was back in the days when he was doing non-killing people errands for Sun’s father and his was only recently married. What I don’t understand is why he has a grave and whether or not he’s counted as one of hte Oceanic Six. I didn’t catch the dates on the grave so I’ll have to wait for screen caps to determine when Jin died. In Kate’s courtroom scene Jack said that 8 people survived the crash but two died later, they could be claiming that Jin was one of the two that died because otherwise they would need some kind of explanation since Sun obviously got pregnant on the island so she’d need Jin to be there. Unless he died AFTER he got off hte island and he was buried there in which case the Oceanic Six is all wrapped up.
